On Mission with Waves of Love
Surf Camp is Filled with Smiles

In the summer of 2014, my oldest son (T5) and myself embarked on a journey to travel down to Nicaragua to spend some time serving in the mission field, and hopefully also grab a few waves in the process.

I took a lot of pictures and shot some video as a way to remember our trip, and had great intentions to put together some kind of promo piece to share as a follow-up to our experience, but as is the case with many things, life got in the way and other priorities took over.

I woke up the other morning with this place in my mind, and was thinking about our time there, the people we met, the miracles we witnessed and the good work that is continuing to take place every single day. Looking over the photos and re-watching the footage was a good exercise for me this week, and helped add some perspective to the environment we currently find ourselves in.

This region is an area of great struggle, and I’m thankful for the people who are committed to dedicating their lives to create a lasting impact on those who live there.

I’m eternally grateful and humbled to have had the opportunity to help put a smile on these kids faces and play a small role in helping provide some joy into what is often a joyless world. And although some time has transpired since this trip, I still want to make sure their story is shared.

If you would like to learn more about how you can help bring joy to these communities in Nicaragua, please visit Waves of Love’s website. Michael and Paula are doing some outstanding work down there, and would be thankful for any support. I’d also like to thank Chad Starkey at SurfFishServe for making the initial introduction and connection.
